The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) extends its heartfelt appreciation to the people of Kwara and various stakeholders following the release of their members, AbdulRazaq Aiyelabegan and Oluwatoyin Luqman, who are Publishers of Just Event Online and SATCOM Media respectively, from police custody after ten days of detention.
Salihu Shola Taofeek, the Chairman of ASKOMP, released a statement on Wednesday after successfully securing the bail for the detained journalists at Kwara Revenue Court.
In his statement, he revealed that the association had chosen the path of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to resolve the conflict.
Aiyelabegan and Luqman were released from Kwara State Police Command Headquarters in Ilorin following the court’s approval of the bail application filed by their legal counsel, Taofeeq Olateju (Esq).
ASKOMP took the opportunity to express gratitude to all stakeholders, individuals, and government officials who had shown concern and provided unwavering support from the beginning until the journalists’ release was secured.
The Association also singled out Ms. Jumoke Gafar, the petitioner, for her willingness to pursue an amicable resolution, understanding that ASKOMP members had no intention of tarnishing her reputation.
Furthermore, Chairman Salihu Shola Taofeek urged ASKOMP members to continue upholding the ethical standards of journalism and to remain steadfast in carrying out their duties.
