Tennis world No 1, Jannik Sinner, has blamed his defeat to Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-final of the ongoing Wimbledon 2024 on ill-health.
During the keenly contested four-hour game on Tuesday July 9 which ended 6-7 (7/9), 6-4, 7-6 (7/4), 2-6, 6-3 in favour of Medvedev, Sinner attended to medics after his doctor signaled his struggle physically.
In a post-match press conference, the Italian admitted that he struggled physically on the court but remained resolute until the third game when he felt unbalanced.
“I was struggling physically and that is the moment I tried to fight with what I had today (Tuesday),” Sinner told journalists.
“I was not feeling great but I did not want to make it known but it took some time because it was quite dizzy, I couldn’t see. I should have called ahead. When I went back I tried my best, obviously disappointed about the third set. I had a couple of set points and couldn’t use them.”
